Building the 700:1 Ring Gear Set
The Scope-Drive List is filled with ways to make your own gear sets. The Ideas I present here are direct results from “a little from this idea, a little from another” Just saying this so you know its nothing original J
So here’s what I used to get started. A Piece of ¼ inch Masonite, Some Epoxy, and a Long piece of ¼-20 threaded rod coated in WD-40.

(The Home Depot Epoxy)

(What the epoxy looks like up close, just cut off how much you want, and knead to mix)
I slide the disks on a central shaft and glued them together with Elmers Wood Glue. Like this

After giving the wood glue several hours to cure. I set into rolling the epoxy into a long ‘snake’ and stuffing it into the grove. Then using a ¼-20 threaded rod coated in WD-40 I rolled the threads into the groove. I’d do about ½ the diameter at time, Here’s a pic where the nearly firm threads meet the fresh threads .

All that’s left at this point is to clean up the excess before it dries, then lap it in with a battery drill with a short piece of ¼-20 threaded rod chucked into, then paint it J
Here is a picture of the finished product

I’ve made a little 6Meg Avi file of a time lapse assembly process that should hopefully answer any remaining question. Here it is Assembly.avi
